Scope
Etruscan and Faliscan antiquities, and the Greek vases found in Italy.
History of the collection
Established in 1889 in a sixteenth-century papal villa, to hold the material coming out of Etruscan sites in Lazio and southern Etruria.
Collection notes
A great many of the finest Greek vases known were found in Etruscan tombs rather than in Greece. That is a fact about ancient trade and Etruscan burial practice, and it is why an Italian Etruscan museum holds a key document of Greek warfare.
